Lady Caroline Cox

Caroline Ann Love was born in 1937, the daughter of a surgeon from Hertford, England. She became a State Registered Nurse at the London Hospital in 1958 and married Dr. Cox in 1959. The couple had three children . She furthered her education with a Degree in Sociology in 1967 and later a Masters in Economics.

Caroline Ann Cox's exemplary Academic career took her in 1977 to being the Director of Nursing Education at Chelsea College and to being an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons. During this time she wrote a book on University corruption and became the founding Chancellor of Bournemouth University. She is currently the Vice President of the Royal college of Nursing and also the Chancellor of Liverpool Hope University.

On the recommendation of Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, her peerage was announced in 1982 and she took the title of Baroness Cox of Queensbury. She became Deputy Speaker for the House of Lords in 1986.

Lady Caroline is honorary vice-chairman of the International Islamic Christian Organisation for Reconciliation and Reconstruction. She is a co-Founder of the One Jerusalem Organisation . During the 1980s , she sat on the Presiding Council of the Institute for the Study of Terrorism.

She is a fervent supporter for self-determination in Nagorno-Karabakh and has been called a "true Armenian nationalist". She has received the Mkhitar Gosh Medal from the President of the republic of Armenia.

Lady Caroline has made elimination of modern slavery a major objective. She joined Christian Solidarity Worldwide in 1997 and visited the Sudan many times and is estimated to have purchased the release of 2281 slaves.

The books and articles she has authored demonstrate her humanitarian and human rights activities. To cite, just a few :

  • Ethnic Cleansing in Progress: war in Nagorno Karabakh

It must also be mentioned that she always supported disability causes and is a member of the World Committee on Disability and is also a judge for the Franklin Roosevelt International Disability Award which is given annually at the UN in New York to the nation that has met the goals of the UN World Program of Action on Disabilities.

One rarely has the opportunity to meet somebody quite like Lady Caroline ! She has had and continues to lead a life devoted to humanity in all aspects. She is a person of strong ideas and ideals which she expresses in her work and in her actions. You will not forget her.
